I want to try to unfasten it, to try to slip from the chair and flee what should’ve been my rescuer. He sets me in the high chair, fussing over the straps that criss cross against my chest. He slides the side of the crib down, scoops me up into his strong arms, and carries me out of the room. I close my eyes again, but it’s too late.
